Non-Surgical Options for Rejuvenation of the Eyes
Minor changes to the eyes can result in an overall more refreshed and rejuvenated appearance. The eyes are the central feature of our faces. Therefore, the appearance of bags or sagging skin can make one appear more tired or older. Many patients are hesitant to undergo surgical procedures to help with these changes. Today we have available non-surgical options for the rejuvenation of the eyes. Fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane, when placed in specific areas around the eyes, can produce a more youthful and rested appearance to the eyes. One of the features which make us appear more tired is the dropping of our brow. We have come to appreciate that this is not only due to gravity resulting from years of squinting our eyes in the sun but also from a loss of volume to the outer aspect of our brow (specifically the area just below our eyebrow). Next time you are reading a magazine pay attention to close–up pictures of the eyes in a young model. You will notice the fullness that the brows have in youth. The placement of subtle amounts of filler in the area just below the eyebrow helps to “lift” the eyebrow and restore it to a more youthful position. Additionally, Botox can be placed in specific areas around the eyes to treat the descent of the eyebrow due to gravity. The combination of these two treatments helps to “open” the eyes and provide a more youthful appearance. Also, one must not overlook the shadows which form underneath our eyes. As we age, the cheek descends exposing an area of shadow underneath our eyes. When we are younger, there exists a smooth transition from our lower eyelids and our cheeks. Fillers such as Restylane, when placed in this area, help to restore this transition from the eyelid to the cheek.
These procedures are performed in office at Facial Plastic Surgery Miami. Normal activities can be resumed shortly thereafter. You are first seen and evaluated by the doctor and, after a careful exam and analysis, the areas that may be addressed are communicated. Expectations from the procedure are also addressed during the visit. The goal is for natural appearing results and an overall more youthful and rested appearance. Detailed photos are taken before your procedure. Since the results aim to be natural they may be perceived as subtle by the patients themselves. However, when shown and compared with the before photo, patients are often amazed by how such seemingly subtle changes actually amount to a big difference overall. The goal would be for acquaintances to not be able to pinpoint what exactly has “changed.” In my opinion, the best compliments after this procedure are those that say, “you look great!” But they can’t necessarily tell if you had something “done.”
