Are you unhappy with the proportions of your nose? Do you feel that the appearance of your nose is it ruining your overall outlook? If so, a rhinoplasty could be the solution for you.
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that can be used to correct the structural defects of your nose. Rhinoplasty is not only a cosmetic procedure but also helps to minimize the breathing problems that usually accompany nasal deformities.
This procedure can be performed using either the closed or open incision method. There are several differences between closed and open rhinoplasty.
Closed rhinoplasty is also known as endonasal rhinoplasty. As is suggested by the name, in this process, the surgical incisions lie inside the nostrils instead of being made outside of them. Since all the incisions are inside, there will be no possibility of a visible post-surgical mark in this process. Not even a portion of any incision mark will be visible from the outside.
However, it is important to know that the left and right nostril incisions are not connected to each other. This means that there lies a difficulty of nasal skin reposition, and the surgical operation can be conducted only through small and narrow incisions that allow only a small amount of visibility. Because there are technical limitations that are associated with a closed rhinoplasty, it is only suitable for certain types of nasal correction and cannot be used for other types.
Open rhinoplasty is also known as external rhinoplasty. The first and foremost difference between the open and closed rhinoplasty is that unlike with the closed process, there is a connection or bridging incision between the left and right nostrils. This is called the trans-columellar incision. It is made on the columella, the external section of skin between the nostrils.
Because of the presence of this bridging incision, the nasal skin can be easily folded, thus allowing clear visibility of the underlying nasal skeleton for the surgeon. Moreover, there are no chances of the nasal cartilage being distorted in this process. Generally, it is possible to perform more intensive types of correction using this method.
What Can Rhinoplasty Treat?
Rhinoplasty can treat numerous nasal issues:
• With the help of rhinoplasty, you can restore your facial balance by adjusting the size of your nose, making it larger or smaller as needed.
• Some people are born with depressions or bumps on their nasal bridge. These can lead to an unpleasant appearance. Rhinoplasty can help to fix that.
• You can adjust the width of your nasal bridge with the help of rhinoplasty and can also adjust the dimensions of the nostrils.
• Rhinoplasty can correct a drooping, bulbous, hooked, or upturned nose tip.
• Rhinoplasty can treat a deviated septum. This issue can make the nose appear crooked and can lead to breathing problems.
