Facial Fillers | Miami, FL
Will facial injectables affect visual signs of aging?
Aging is an inevitable facet of our lives. Over the course of time, our skin accumulates fine lines and wrinkles. Prolonged exposure to the sun and years of continual muscle movement are also factors that add to the aging of our skin. However, there are many ways we can combat the effects of aging, without resorting to a facelift. Injectable facial fillers are one of the most popular nonsurgical aesthetic treatments available today. These treatments work to rejuvenate the facial skin by smoothing out wrinkles and scar depressions, enhancing the fullness of the lips, and replacement of the volume lost in the soft tissue of the face that occurs over the course of time. Injectable fillers are administered to patients through a series of tiny injections to particular areas of the face, depending on what the patient’s goals are regarding the improvement of their appearance. Each treatment is completed rapidly, taking only approximately 20 minutes to complete.
Some of the most commonly used facial fillers include Juvederm, ArteColl/ArteFill, Restylane, Sculptra, Radiesse as well as Botox, collagen and fat. These latter three are perhaps the most well-known. Each of these treatments varies in terms of how long they last, from a few months to about a year depending on the filler in question; some last longer than others and are not absorbed by the body as quickly, though it is important to consider that none of them are permanent. Side effects are rare but may include swelling of the treated area, bruising, pain, temporary redness, and irritation, all of which fade and while unpleasant, have not been known to cause anything other than discomfort. A qualified plastic surgeon can assist you as a patient in making the proper choice of filler to receive to meet your aesthetic goals.
