Aging and the formation of wrinkles cannot be avoided completely, but the process can be slowed down. Thanks to developments in modern medicine, a number of procedures are now available to prevent the formation of age lines and wrinkles. Anyone wanting to keep or restore their youthful looks can now choose from a variety of different treatments.
Botox is a treatment used to slow down wrinkle formation in the skin and smooth away existing lines and creases. This injectable is administered precisely and directly into the facial muscles.
Dysport is made using botulism toxin, which is a neurotoxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. When used in small doses, the toxin is not harmful to humans. In addition to botulism toxin, which is the active agent, Botox also includes supporting agents.
How Does It Work?
Many wrinkles form in certain areas of our face due to muscle action and how the skin responds to it. When we smile, the skin at the sides of our mouth and eyes creases, when we frown, we get creases between our eyes, and when we raise our eyebrows, creases form on the forehead. Repeated creasing of the skin in these areas causes wrinkles and age lines.
Botox works by relaxing the overworked and contracted muscles in your face. When Botox is injected into your skin, it prevents the muscles from being stimulated by nerve impulses. When the muscles no longer respond to the nerves, they can relax, allowing the overlying skin to return to its smooth state.
What Is the Procedure Like?
The Botox procedure is very short and quite convenient. During it, Botox will be injected into the areas that need to be treated. The practitioner will take a very fine needle to inject the formula wherever it is needed. The number of injections will depend on the number of areas being targeted.
How Long Do the Effects of Botox Last?
On average, the effects of Botox can be seen around seven to ten days after the procedure. Botox is known to last for up to four months before treatment needs to be repeated. You will need a follow-up treatment when you notice wrinkles starting to form again.
Before and After Treatment
Before your Botox treatment, you will meet with Dr. Bared to discuss your suitability for the procedure. Remember to inform him about whether or not you are allergic to any food or medications. Avoid getting Botox treatments if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or if you suffer from any neurological or muscular disorders.
Botox is one of the safest treatments available for younger-looking wrinkle-free skin. You may experience some temporary mild stinging, bruising, and/or swelling at the sites of the injections.
