Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Miami

Dr. Anthony Bared, M.D., F.A.C.S. - Facial Plastic Surgeon MiamiFollicular Unit Extraction or FUE is a method of harvesting the donor hair for a hair transplant. FUE allows for one to maintain a short haircut without the risk if a linear scar showing. Dr. Bared utilizes a hand held drill for his FUE procedures. In order to optimize results and reduce the risks in the donor area, the smallest possible drill bit is used for each case. These drill bits range in size from 0.8 mm to 1 mm. FUE extractions are performed from around the back and sides of the scalp. FUE also affords the use of body, chest, and beard hair for patients who may have a paucity of scalp donor hair (such as in those who have had previous procedures). Unlike other offices, Dr. Bared has a fully dedicated team of hair technicians with many years of experience who are able to assist with each of these procedures. The team at Dr. Bared’s office is a full time dedicated hair team who he works with on a daily basis.

Advantages of FUE

The most obvious advantage of the FUE technique for donor hair harvesting is the avoidance of a linear donor site scar. FUE allows for you to maintain a very short hairstyle without the risk if a linear scar being apparent. The downside of FUE for some patients is the need to have to buzz the hair to the level of a ‘one’ on a trimmer to be able to obtain sufficient grafts for a procedure. In some cases, (in patients with longer hair and fewer grafts needed) the hair does not have to be completely buzzed but rather ‘tunnels’ can be within the longer hair. This allows for the concealment if the donor area while utilizing the FUE technique.
