Ultherapy is all-the-buzz! You may have seen it featured on national TV shows such as Rachael Ray, The Doctors, 20/20 and The View, plus touted by big-name beauty editors from Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire and more. Ultherapy is the first non-surgical device ever recommended by Dr. Bared. As a facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Bared understands by extensive first-hand experience what surgery can accomplish, as well as appreciates the indications of Ultherapy in helping patients to look younger and more refreshed.

When to Consider Ultherapy Treatments
If you’re not ready for surgery, but want to do something about the loose skin around your neck, chin and brows, Ultherapy might be the treatment for you. This non-invasive, non-surgical procedure, when performed in a doctor’s office, uses ultrasound energy to tighten and lift the skin on the face and/or neck, creating a more youthful look, without the long recovery time commonly associated with surgery. If you have already had some facial rejuvenation surgery, and now are seeking a bit more tightening of your neck or facial skin, Ultherapy can be an excellent “refresher”. The ultrasound energy can help to achieve this with no down-time and lower cost.
How does Ultherapy Treatments Work
Ultherapy is different from other cosmetic procedures, as it is not a filler, nor a laser, nor has any recovery time. Instead, Ultherapy’s ultrasound energy stimulates collagen in the layers beneath the skin, reorganizing the collagen that will result in tightening of the skin on the face and neck, producing visible changes three to six months later. The energy is able to penetrate the surface of the skin without any incisions.

Ultherapy has been approved by the FDA to lift and tighten the skin beneath the chin and jawline, in the brow and forehead areas, and on the neck. It is also the only device to receive FDA approval to tighten the skin on the chest or décolleté. During treatment, a specially designed handheld device is applied, capturing an image of the layers beneath the skin that is projected onto a screen. With these layers being seen, the ultrasound energy can then be specifically sent to the targeted areas beneath the skin. During a treatment, which can last from 30 minutes to two hours, patients can feel the ultrasound energy, with the sensation varying from patient to patient. Some patients experience a bit of discomfort which is minimized with a topical anesthetic, ibuprofen and, if desired, a light oral sedative such as a Valium. Feeling something is a good sign though, as it means that the ultrasound technology is working and stimulating the production of collagen in the dermis.
Dr. Bared’s approach when performing Ultherapy
There are many options when choosing an office to perform your Ultherapy treatment. Unlike most offices, Dr. Bared is able to offer a unique opportunity to provide each patient with both surgical and non-surgical options for their aging facial concerns. Dr. Bared feels it is very important to set proper and realistic expectations for the results of Ultherapy. It is very important that patients understand that the results of Ultherapy typically do not match those able to be attained with a surgical procedure. However, one of the many reasons why patients will choose Dr. Bared for their Ultherapy treatments is, if further correction of the treated areas is needed, Dr. Bared provides a credit toward a surgical procedure (such as a facelift or browlift procedure) as soon as six months and up to one year after your Ultherapy treatment.
